My sister is going to have to put down her 12 year old dog companion this week. I sent her the link to this photo. It brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. I hope some day she’s in Flagstaff.

When I was a kid I had a dog named Bagel (because he was the color of a cream cheese bagel). He was my only dog friend. When I was 14 or so he got chomped by an alligator, according to our neighbor. I’ve met a few more dogs I don’t mind so much since then, but it’s mostly been cats I’ve connected with (J.D. until he passed on, and then Bozo, until he got chomped by dogs a couple of years ago). I haven’t thought about Bagel in years. He was a good dog, even though he thought that when I called him it was time to play the game where I chase him around the yard until I fall down from exhaustion and frustration. He was real good at playing hard to get…which is why I could never really accept the alligator story. He never did come back, though.
